Where double doors are fitted, there is an overlap to allow the doors to close on each other.

This overlap is termed as a rebate, and to fit a lock to this requires a rebate conversion kit.

On this website, each lock contains a reference to the compatible rebate kit (where appropriate) which needs to be ordered separately from the lock.

Fitting Instructions

These instructions assume the fitter has the normal knowledge and tools required to fit Imperial locks and latches into standard, non rebated doors and offers the additional information needed to fit Imperial locks and latches into rebated double doors using the correct rebate conversion kit for the product being fitted.

Rebated double doors consist of two doors, with a ‘stepped’ edge to both doors where they come together. This stepped edge usually measures 13mm, 19mm or 25mm and the correct corresponding size rebate kit to match needs to be fitted. These doors are called the ‘Primary’ door and ‘Secondary’ door. The lock will be fitted into the Primary door that opens first, and the strike plate onto the Secondary door which is normally held locked by bolts fitted top and bottom.

Locate the rebate kit packing piece *, this needs to be fitted to the primary door in the position normally chosen for standard doors. Mortice the packing piece into the edge of the door so the front edge is flush with the protruding edge of the door rebate. *Now fit the Imperial lock or latch through the packing piece in the normal way.

Using the latch and/or deadbolt from the product now fitted to the Primary door, offer this up to the secondary door to acquire correct alignment for the strike plate noting the packing piece on the Primary door will also need to align within the strike plate profile.

Mortice the strike plate into the edge of the Secondary door so that the top edge of the V bend is flush with protruding edge of the door rebate. *
